The topic of the Florida Farm Bureau Federation’s 2019 Youth Speech Contest is “Recent natural disasters have had a major impact on agriculture. How have these impacts affected consumers?”
The FFB’s Youth Speech Contest is open to any student at least 14 years of age, and not over 18 years as of Sept. 13, 2019 (i.e., not having reached their 19th birthday). Students must be a resident of the county of the sponsoring county Farm Bureau. For information, visit the website of your county’s farm bureau; the list is at www.floridafarmbureau.org/county-farm-bureaus. For deadlines or other information, contact your county Farm Bureau.
Membership in your county Farm Bureau is not a requirement; however, it is encouraged. Contestants must display a positive attitude about agriculture, and speech content must be in line with Farm Bureau policies, which can be found at www.floridafarmbureau.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/2019-Policy-Book.pdf.
While preparing your speech, look at the scoring rubric. Focus on the points that will get you the best score, and practice — out loud, in front of a mirror, to your parents, to your friends. If something isn’t flowing, change the wording. Most of all, be confident.
