On Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23-24, downtown LaBelle will salute hearts of palm by hosting the 53rd annual Swamp Cabbage Festival with a rodeo, 5K run, a dance and a fishing tournament.
But don’t call swamp cabbage “hearts of palm” — its euphemistic term — if you attend this festival, which officially begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with a parade. Portions of Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 8 a.m.
The Hendry County Cattlemen’s Association will hold the ninth annual Swamp Cabbage Festival Ranch Rodeo at 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Events include team branding and bronc riding by real cowboys and cowgirls as they compete in hopes of qualifying for the Florida Cattlemen’s Association State Finals in Kissimmee.
A variety of live performers, including cloggers, dancers and musicians, will keep you entertained. For the complete schedule, visit www.labelleswampcabbagefestival.org/music.
On Thursday night, Feb. 21, at 5 p.m., you can attend the Old Timers Dinner, a fundraiser for the LaBelle Heritage Museum. Tickets cost $25, and sales close on Feb. 17. For more information and to order tickets, call 863-674-0034, email [email protected] or visit www.labelleswampcabbagefestival.org/old-timers-dinner.
