The exhibit “Selby’s Secret Garden” – at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota – features rare books and prints from the library, as well as preserved plant specimens.
This exhibit, in the Museum of Botany & the Arts, shows the link between nature and humankind’s desire to depict the science of botany. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens has 28,000 specimens displayed in preservative fluids.
The exhibit also features colorful, highly detailed botanical illustrations from the 18th and 19th centuries (see photo, right).
“Selby’s Secret Garden” runs through Nov. 27; hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
From Oct. 14-Nov. 27, the gardens will bring to life a Victorian greenhouse for touring.
