The Hallstrom Farmstead and the Indian River County Historical Society (IRCHS) are hosting “Party at the Pineapple Plantation” on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This historic Vero Beach farmstead was a pineapple plantation in the early 1900s. This event is also a fundraiser and membership drive for the IRCHS. At the event, stations will be set up to tell the history of pineapple-growing in the county, as well as how to plant and carve these delicious fruits.
Blue Cypress Bluegrass will provide music. Barbecue dinners will be available: adults, $10; children, 4-12, $5; 2 and under, free.
A special station for kids will feature crafts and face paintings. A cookbook of pineapple recipes will be available for purchase; other events include a silent auction and tours of the Hallstrom Farmstead.
Arts and crafts vendors also will be on-site.
On display will be sketches of the Indian River County Historical Society’s plans for the farmstead. These include restoring the carriage house and adding a summer kitchen.
