Key Note Last week, John Rife, owner and founder of East End Market, announced the dates for the second annual Florida Local Food Summit. The three-day event will be held Sept. 18-20, 2015, at the Straughn IFAS Extension Center in Gainesville Florida. The summit is organized by East End Market, Local Roots Farm-to Restaurant Distribution and Local Roots Farm Store, and Florida Organic Growers. If you’re interested in farming, food policy, and strengthening Florida’s food system, mark your calendar – this is an event you don’t want to miss.

The Florida Local Food Summit will feature fantastic speakers, including local and national farm and food policy experts, and educational opportunities, including advanced farmer training, farm business courses, and how-to-start-a-farm courses. Local food organizing and food policy sessions are also on the menu. To top it all off, farm tours and farm-to-table dinners will be part of the event.

Soups OnThe summit is the place to learn about entrepreneurship, organic growing, and permaculture in Florida, and to meet new and old friends growing our local food system.

Co-organizer, Emily Rankin, owner of Local Roots, has high hopes for the upcoming summit. “It has been one of my dreams for a long time to bring together our local food community here in the state of Florida. Last year’s Florida Local Food Summit was invigorating, mind-opening, and I built endless relationships that have strengthened my local food business.”

It is anticipated that this year’s summit will attract even more participants from across the state.

When the inaugural Florida Food Summit was held last October, Florida Food & Farm was just in its infancy stage. We attended the summit with a mock-up of our magazine, and high hopes for launching in January. We were overwhelmed by the excitement around our magazine last year, and are so excited to go back in September with three issues under our belt. And we are especially excited to be a sponsor of this year’s event.

Remember to save the date – September 18-20. We hope to see you there!
