The City of Lake Worth will host the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration on Saturday through Monday, Jan. 19-21. This is the 25th MLK Celebration that the city has hosted.
Schedule of events
SATURDAY: Unity Day in the Park; noon to 4 p.m.; Howard Park, at Wingfield Street and Washington Avenue. This family-friendly event features food, music, games and a bounce house.
SUNDAY: Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance; 2 p.m.; St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 100 N. Palmway Drive. This event features works by well-known African-American poets, as well as music from the Jazz Age by Core Ensemble.
MONDAY: Unity Interfaith Breakfast; 7:30-9 a.m.; St Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 928 S. E St.
Civil Rights Song Fest; 4 p.m.; Lake Worth City Hall, 7 N. Dixie Highway. Hear music of the movement, including Ain’t Nobody Gonna Turn Me Around.
Candlelight March; 4:30 p.m; begins at Lake Worth City Hall; march through downtown Lake Worth in a tribute to the Freedom Marches of the Civil Rights Movement.
MLK Commemorative Program; 5:30 p.m.; Cultural Plaza, 414 Lake Ave. This inspirational program also features music.
MLK Fellowship Dinner; 6-8 p.m.; Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 402 N. M St.
