Mamey sapote is unlike any other fruit, in the best way possible. The flavor profile is unique, mixing hints of baked sweet potato, mango, and almond. It’s undeniably sweet but also a little savory and, above all, delicious.

The rich, creamy consistency provides the best texture for smoothies, so we gave it a seasonal summer spin and created frozen popsicles. They pair perfectly with a dip of semi-sweet raw chocolate sauce, a sprinkle of crushed pistachios, and some of that warm Florida sunshine.

MAMEY POPSICLES (recipe makes 4)

Ingredients

  • Flesh from 1 medium-size mamey
  • 1 cup mango
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth. Immediately pour into silicone popsicle molds and insert popsicle sticks. Place in freezer for 3 to 4 hours, or overnight.

Optional: Once frozen, enjoy popsicles with a drizzle of chocolate sauce and a sprinkle of crushed pistachios.

Raw Chocolate Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons raw, unsweetened cacao powder
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and put over very low heat, just enough so oil melts. Stir together until smooth. Drizzle immediately over popsicles, and add chopped pistachios (optional).
