Now is your chance to celebrate your favorite farmers market – and maybe even win a prize while doing it. Aug. 7-13 is National Farmers Market Week (NFMW), an annual event sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that highlights the important role farmers markets play in the nation’s food system.

Now in its 17th year, NFMW, observed during the first full week of August, provides an opportunity for farmers markets to highlight the important effects they have on us, such as increasing access to fresh, healthy food; supporting local communities; and helping to preserve the country’s farmland and rural livelihood.

The Farmers Market Coalition, a nationwide nonprofit agency dedicated to strengthening farmers markets, wants your help in spreading the news. So FMC is sponsoring a contest.

The 2016 #LoveMyMarket Instagram Contest ends at 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 31. Prizes will be awarded to the photographer and to the market of the winning photos: a T-shirt for the photographer and a social-media photo-booth kit for the farmers market.

This contest allows customers as well as vendors to promote their favorite farmers market. Here are the rules:

First, take a photo at the farmers market – of yourself, a vendor, a customer, or even an animal or vegetable (in fact, virtually anyone or anything) wearing a Farmers Market Coalition branded tattoo (order here). Then, using the hashtag #LoveMyMarket, post the photo on Instagram.
