Florida Double Cask Bourbon will be released at St. Augustine Distillery on Friday, Sept. 9.
St. Augustine Distillery will soon release the first bourbon produced in the state since Prohibition, which ended in 1933. Florida Double Cask Bourbon will be available at the distillery’s gift shop on Friday, Sept. 9, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and at retailers, bars, and restaurants shortly afterward.
“Florida Double Cask Bourbon is a celebration of the Sunshine State, its agriculture, and its unique maritime climate,” said Philip McDaniel, co-founder and chief executive officer of the distillery. “Florida’s year-round heat and humidity ages our bourbon faster and with greater intensity than anywhere in the country.”
The bourbon, a dark amber color, is malted, distilled, and bottled on-site using local ingredients to impart the distinctive flavors of the region. The age of the spirits in this bourbon release range from 16 to 28 months.
“New federal regulations require the ‘stated age’ be that of the youngest spirit in the blend,” McDaniel noted.
The taste is “full-bodied, deep, and complex, with notes of caramel, dark fruit, oak, and dark chocolate,” according to the distillery. The bourbon is 93.8 proof (46.9 percent alcohol), and will be priced at $50 for a 750 ml bottle.
The distillery is at 112 Riberia St., St. Augustine. On Sept. 9, St. Augustine Distillery will offer free guided tours and tastings every half-hour from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
