A team of more than 100 employees and volunteers — from Cabot Creamery Co-operative, the United Food Bank of Plant City, Feeding Tampa Bay and United Way Suncoast — came together recently at the 82nd annual Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City to set the Guinness world record for the World’s Largest Smoothie.
The team created a 1,000-gallon smoothie, consisting largely of Plant City strawberries, that eclipsed the former record of 824.7 gallons held by McGill University of Toronto, Canada.
Using World’s Largest Smoothie to feed the hungry
Once the smoothie was finished, team members began selling the smoothie to festival attendees for a suggested donation of $1 or more, for a serving of the creation in a Cabot souvenir cup. All of the donations benefited the two food banks.
All leftovers were filled and shipped to Feeding Tampa Bay in specialized 2.5-gallon food-grade containers donated by CKS Packaging. Cabot’s record attempt enabled the company to raise almost $10,000 in cash for the food banks. The remaining smoothie product will help feed thousands of people in need throughout Central Florida.
Cabot donates 500 pounds of cheese
In addition to the money raised through the sale of the World’s Largest Smoothie at the event, Cabot also donated more than 500 pounds of Cabot Seriously Sharp Cheddar and Cabot Alpine Cheddar cheeses to the food banks.
The Cabot team created the World’s Largest Smoothie using more than 250 gallons of Cabot Vanilla Bean Greek Yogurt; 2,000 pounds of fresh Florida strawberries; 3,375 pounds of ice; and 265 pounds of Cabot Whey protein powder.
Cabot recaptures World’s Largest Smoothie title
The Cabot smoothie team previously set the Guinness world record mark of more than 400 U.S. gallons of smoothie in 2013 at the Bike Expo New York event in New York City.
“Our farmers are happy to recapture the title for the World’s Largest Smoothie to benefit the United Food Bank of Plant City and Feeding Tampa Bay,” says Roberta MacDonald, senior vice president of marketing for the Cabot Creamery Co-operative.
